- Wheatley was home to a Roman villa on Castle Hill, about one mile southeast of the parish church, which was excavated in 1845 and revealed Roman coins dating from AD 260 to 378.
- Interestingly, a Saxon cemetery was excavated in Wheatley in 1883, and the artefacts discovered are now housed in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
