Northallerton – did you know?

• Northallerton is the administrative headquarters of North Yorkshire Council, making it a key civic centre for the largest county in England by area.
• Interestingly, the Battle of the Standard was fought just north of the town in 1138, where English forces repelled a Scottish army with losses of up to 12,000 Scots. The battle took its name from a chariot carrying the consecrated banners of St Peter, St John of Beverley, St Wilfrid of Ripon, and St Cuthbert.
